ALTECH automates parking management for the Park Güell Logistics Platform for B:SM

10 May 2026

B:SM has deployed a technology solution developed by ALTECH to automate access control and monitoring of the Park Güell logistics platform.

The new access management and control system implemented at the Park Güell logistics platform automates access control for the 20 coach parking spaces and centralizes real-time monitoring of the parking facility.

The equipment supplied makes it possible to manage occupancy of the logistics platform through video analytics and various control mechanisms. It also enables proactive video surveillance and better information for users through various variable-message information panels.

The solution, developed by ALTECH for Barcelona de Serveis Municipals (B:SM) and based on its HERMES security and access control platform, comes into operation as part of the plan to improve tourist mobility around the park.

An application designed for all visitors

Municipal regulations reserve access to the 20 coach parking spaces —operating from 8:00 a.m. to 6:45 p.m. every day— exclusively for vehicles with a prior reservation and a maximum stay of 90 minutes.

The new digital platform improves the previous manual surveillance system with real-time monitoring of all access and parking activity, resolving verification issues, overstays, and occupancy problems at their root.

The installation of various information panels provides visitors with real-time information, guiding them from their entry point to the space they are assigned. The panels can also display other information of interest to users.

Comprehensive automation of access and operational management

Heavy-duty motorized barriers, OCR license plate readers, QR code readers, inductive presence-detection loops, traffic lights, and a payment terminal at the exit to manage overstays have been installed on the entry and exit lanes.
The access process follows an automated verification sequence: the system reads the vehicle’s license plate as it approaches the barrier, checks it in real time against confirmed reservations, and manages the opening or denial of the barrier. In the event of a discrepancy, the vehicle can present the QR code of its reservation to complete verification.

Main features of the management system

The Hermes web platform is accessible from computers and mobile devices, bringing together all operational management tools in a single environment:

  • A real-time interactive map showing the status of each space. From the map, the assigned space can be changed, the stay extended, or entry/exit forced.
  • Reservation management with a dynamic table view by time slot and a list view filterable by status, license plate, and date.
  • Remote barrier control: opening, closing, and locking from the web application, with automatic schedule programming by day of the week.
  • Real-time video surveillance with different viewing modes, for automatic incident detection.
  • Lists of authorized vehicles and an instant license plate search tool.

Impact on mobility and area management

Access automation optimizes the use of space, eliminates queues on the access lanes, reduces the presence of coaches on public roads, and frees surveillance staff from repetitive manual verification tasks.

For B:SM, the project represents an advance in the digitalization of its operations and provides complete traceability of every movement in the parking facility, in line with its data-driven urban management strategy.
