Silence, a global leader in the design, development, and manufacture of electric scooters, has unveiled Europe’s first Battery Station in Barcelona. Altech collaborated with Silence to develop this equipment, which will allow electric vehicle users to swap batteries with minimal waiting time.
Silence is launching this innovative battery swapping service that will allow users to purchase its electric vehicles without having to pay for the battery, allowing them to sign a rental contract for it. With this service, users can also swap their battery when it doesn’t have enough charge to complete their desired trip.
Altech has collaborated with Silence to design and develop the Battery Station platform, which allows real-time management of both charging stations and swapping services performed by users. Users can register for the app in just a few minutes, and once their data has been validated, they can begin using the service.
When the user arrives at the battery station, they insert their battery into the free slot (there will always be at least one slot available) and, automatically and in real time, the station identifies the inserted battery, checks that the user has an active reserve and, if everything is correct, releases a battery with sufficient charge so that the user can continue their journey.

The main advantages of this service are:
- Immediately, charging and waiting times are eliminated. In just a few minutes, the user can exchange a dead battery for one with a charge available.
- Easy and convenient. A new user can register in several steps through the app developed by Altech.
- Sustainable. Electric mobility drastically reduces CO2 emissions.
- Economical. A customer can use this battery exchange service for a monthly fee of around €20. A considerably lower cost than fuel at gas stations.
Silence currently has three stations operating at its headquarters in Corsica and plans to open new battery exchange points in 2022.
