ALTECH reinforces the security and efficiency of the Port of Tarragona with a new access control system for the Balearic Wharf.

The Port Authority of Tarragona (APT) is once again placing its trust in ALTECH as it pursues technological innovation in its infrastructure, implementing an advanced access control system at the cruise terminal located on the Baleares Wharf. The objective: to improve port security and optimise vehicle flow with intelligent, robust, and reliable solutions.


The Port of Tarragona, in a clear commitment to security and efficiency, is reinforcing its control mechanisms by expanding the number of sites managed with the HERMES platform, a solution designed and developed by ALTECH specifically for access control and management.

The solution implemented by ALTECH combines state-of-the-art physical elements with a customisable software platform (HERMES). The new system regulates both vehicle entry and exit via automatic licence plate recognition (LPR) and personnel access via RFID accreditation cards. The control infrastructure includes various elements and technologies: heavy-duty barriers, motorised gates, LED traffic lights, variable message signs, and security cameras.


At ALTECH, we have not only customised the HERMES solution to meet the APT’s specific characteristics and needs, but we have also carried out the necessary civil works and installation to ensure the seamless integration of all technological elements into the port environment.

This initiative enhances the security of the Port of Tarragona and enables smoother, automated, and traceable access management, meeting the most demanding standards.
