ALTECH has implemented an access control system using its own technology at Vopak Terquimsa’s new facilities at the Port of Tarragona. The new system will allow all vehicles accessing the new loading towers to be identified and controlled fully automatically, increasing operational safety and efficiency.

As part of the expansion works at the Vopak Terquimsa terminal in the Port of Tarragona, Altech has executed a project for the design, development, and implementation of a security, information, and access control system for the concession for the four new chemical storage tanks.

The new storage tanks feature the latest advances in loading and automation systems, setting a global benchmark. This, combined with Altech’s technology for regulating vehicle flow, identifying tractors and tankers, providing driver information, and providing sensors at various checkpoints, makes this facility a benchmark in the sector.

The set of applications and equipment comprising the new system are based on the HERMES technology platform, developed by Altech, and boasts a modular and scalable design that enables management and access control to controlled areas and critical infrastructure.

The flexibility of this solution has made it possible to integrate the new system with other Vopak Terquimsa applications and corporate systems.

The robustness and reliability of Altech’s solutions have been key factors in the system’s smooth operation. The proximity to the sea has required technology capable of withstanding the saline environment and inclement weather. Furthermore, as this is an unattended, fully automated system with a continuous flow of vehicles, the use of highly reliable applications is essential to ensure daily operations are not affected.

Altech and Vopak Terquimsa, which share a vision for safety and a goal of zero incidents, have been collaborating since 2014 to develop and implement various technological solutions at their facilities in the ports of Tarragona and Barcelona.
